Taxi Squad Guide
A taxi squad is a development roster that lets you retain eligible young players without using a bench spot.
At a glance
| Rule | How it works |
|---|---|
| Capacity | Up to 5 players |
| Eligibility | Rookies and sophomores only |
| Assignment deadline | Before Week 1 kickoff |
| In-season changes | Taxi rosters lock once the regular season begins |
| Graduation | Players entering a third NFL season must move to the active roster |
Using your taxi squad
Taxi is best used for players with longer development timelines—such as rookie quarterbacks, raw prospects, backup running backs, and late-round rookie selections. Fill available taxi slots before the Week 1 deadline if you want to preserve bench flexibility.
Important reminder
Taxi eligibility is limited to rookies and sophomores. Veterans are not eligible. Once the regular season begins, no new players may be added to taxi.
